Í mánuðinum er tilkynnt um 32 nýjar leigumyndir. Ég skráði hjá mér eftirfarandi titla og bar undir Rotten Tomatoes. Niðurstaðan er hér fyrir neðan með titli myndar, tölfræði jákvæðra umfjallana og almenna umsögn.

Little Miss Sunshine
92%
What happens when you stuff a failed motivation speaker, his wife, the nation's number one Proust scholar, an elderly potty-mouthed heroin addict, a teen who’s mute by choice, and a bespectacled little pageant hopeful into a mini VW bus for a three day road trip? You get this hilarious but moving satire about a dysfunctional family obsessed with winning. Credit must go to the ensemble cast that includes Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Alan Arkin, and Abigail Breslin and the delightfully funny script by Michael Arndt, which first-time directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris handled perfectly.
Líklega góð afþreying
Stranger than Fiction
74%
A fun, whimsical tale about about an office drone trying to save his life from his narrator. The cast obviously is having a blast with the script, but Stranger Than Fiction's tidy lessons make this metaphysical movie feel like Charlie Kaufman-lite.
Líklega ekki þess virði að eltast við, en samt...
Marie Antoinette
54%
Lavish imagery and a daring soundtrack set this film apart from most period dramas; in fact, style complete takes precedence over plot and character development in Coppola's vision of the doomed queen.
The Holiday
47%
The Holiday, while sweet and somewhat touching, lacks any surprises and eventually overstays its welcome.
Síðri myndir, kannski hálf lélegar
Trust the Man
28%
What aspires to be a sophisticated, unconventional romantic comedy turns out to be a contrivance-filled pretender to other, better films of its genre.
Black Dahlia
35%
Though this ambitious noir crime-drama captures the atmosphere of its era, it suffers from subpar performances, a convoluted story, and the inevitable comparisons to other, more successful films of its genre.
Man of the Year
20%
Weakened by second-half attempts at thriller and romance, this presidential comedy also fails to hit any sharp political notes, resulting in a confused and unsatisfying mess.

"Casino Royale disposes of the silliness and gadgetry that plagued recent James Bond outings, and Daniel Craig delivers what fans and critics have been waiting for: a caustic, haunted, intense reinvention of 007".
Children of Men
91%
"Children of Men works on every level: as a violent chase thriller, a fantastical cautionary tale, and a sophisticated human drama about societies struggling to live. This taut and thought-provoking tale may not have the showy special effects normally found in movies of this genre, but you won't care one bit after the story kicks in, about a dystopic future where women can no longer conceive and hope lies within one woman who holds the key to humanity's survival. It will have you riveted".

The Departed
93%
The Departed is a thoroughly engrossing gangster drama with the gritty authenticity and soupy morality that has infused director Martin Scorceses past triumphs. Featuring outstanding work from an excellent cast that includes Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Matt Damon, some critics say the film even tops its source material (the Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs). The Departed marks a triumphant return to form for Scorsese; it's his best-reviewed film since GoodFellas.
An Inconvenient Truth
92%
While global warming is a hotly-debated subject, what everyone on both sides can agree upon is that, if real, it's a very bad thing. Since losing the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush, former Vice President Al Gore has busied himself by being an outspoken figure against this potential environmental disaster. As much about the man as about greenhouse gases, this candid, powerful and informative documentary illuminates some of the myths surrounding both of its subjects equally well.

The White Massai
83%
Visually stunning, The White Masai is an unforgettable love story that takes us deep into the heart of Kenya. The course of true love is never smooth, and the story of a Swiss woman who marries a Masai warrior is romance at its most exotic.
Riding Alone For Thousands
80%
Doesn't reach the heights of Zhang Yimou's best, but this is still a heartwarming tale of love and forgiveness from the acclaimed Chinese director.
Pulse (japanska útg.)
72%
A sinister spine-tingling techno-thriller whose artistry lies in the power of suggestion rather than a barrage of blood and guts or horror shop special effects.
Leonard Cohen - I´m Your Man
71%
A moving, if somewhat uneven, look at the legendary singer-songwriter, I'm Your Man treats Cohen's body of work with the reverence it deserves.

EInhvers konar snilld
The Queen
98%
Full of wit, humor, and pathos, Stephen Frears’ moving portrait of the British royals during the period after Princess Diana's death features not one but two remarkable performances, that of Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II and Michael Sheen as the newly-ordained Prime Minister Tony Blair. They embody their characters and lay bare the motivations behind these prominent people, giving viewers a glimpse into the inner workings of the British monarchy.
Nokkuð traustar gæðamyndir
Brick
78%
This entertaining homage to noirs past has been slickly and compellingly updated to a contemporary high school setting.
A detective story set around a contemporary California high school, BRICK dares to combine the teen and film noir genres.
The U.S. vs. John Lennon
75%
Though it glosses over anything negative about Lennon, this documentary offers a lot of fascinating archival footage, plus its political issues still have relevance for today.
World Trade Center
71%
As a visually stunning tribute to lives lost in tragedy, World Trade Center succeeds unequivocally, and it is more politically muted than many of Stone's other works.
Snow Cake
69%
- A gentle film with a warm heart & mostly sad circumstance. Brings awareness to Autism, and it has its moments of beauty, but I couldn't help wanting more.
- Ultimately, [Snow Cake] is the sort of film that creeps up on you and you don't realise how much it has affected you till you find yourself still thinking about it days later.
A Scanner Darkly
66%
A faithful adaptation of Philip K. Dick's novel, A Scanner Darkly takes the viewer on a visual and mind-blowing journey into the author's conception of a drug-addled and politically unstable world.
- Much like someone who doesn't realize how high he is, A Scanner Darkly talks too much and doesn't say enough.
Ágætis afþreyingar
The Last Kiss (byggt á ítalskri mynd: L´ultimo bacio)
46%
You'll either find the The Last Kiss to be a phony bore or a refreshing take about young 20-somethings at the crossroads between their carefree lifestyle and responsibility. Zach Braff and the rest of the appealing cast make the case for the latter.
How to Eat Fried Worms
57%
- Issues like family harmony, justice, righting wrongs and telling the truth never go out of fashion and that comes across strong and clear in this less-than-perfect, but still solid, feel-good film.

Áreiðanlegar klassamyndir:
United 93
93%.
Potent and sobering, United 93 is even more gut-wrenching because the outcome is already known. While difficult to watch, director Paul Greengrass' film has been made with skill and treats the subject matter with respect, never resorting to the aggrandizement of which Hollywood has sometimes been accused. Especially effective is the cast of mostly unknown actors, who portray the passengers of the doomed flight as ordinary people who respond with bravery to extraordinary circumstances.
Volver
91%
Volver catches director Pedro Almodovar and star Penelope Cruz at the peak of their respective powers, in service of a layered, thought-provoking film. This magical tragicomic melodrama may be Almodovar's most restrained work to date, but it still features his trademarks: a strong attention to color and detail, a celebration of the trials and tribulations of women, and, of course, the inestimable Carmen Maura. The lovely Penelope Cruz hasn't shone more brightly as she does here.
Half Nelson
91%
An honest and inspirational film that explores the precarious relationship between a white inner-city public school teacher struggling with his own demons and a young black girl on the verge of losing her innocence, Half Nelson features powerful performances from Ryan Gosling and Shareeka Epps. It's a wise, unsentimental portrait of lonely people at the crossroads. Half Nelson proves one doesn't need a huge budget or an A-list star to make a honest, absorbing drama.
The Wind that Shakes the Barley
85%
Bleak and uncompromising, but director Ken Loach brightens his film with gorgeous cinematography and tight pacing, and features a fine performance from Cillian Murphy.
- Winner of the Best Film at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, this powerful political saga is not merely a cinematic masterpiece from start to finish but a righteous rallying cry for disenfranchised masses anywhere with nothing left to lose but their chains.
Ásættanlegar afþreyingar:
Down in the Valley
49%
The premise of Old West clashing with modern suburbia is fresh and initially intriguing, but the second act degenerates into a clumsy jumble of events which strain credibility.
The Dying Gaul
48%.
Though it has a fine cast, The Dying Gaul's plot feels calculated and too intellectualized
Renaissance
44%.
Renaissance attempts to blend sci-fi wonder with stark noir animation, but is often more fun to look at than to watch.
The Night Listener (Robin Williams)
41%
This psychological thriller compels by blurring the line between truth and fiction; unfortunately, the film itself gets muddled in a hazy account of Maupin's original novel.
- As a consideration of the power of storytelling (and the urge to mythologize one's own life as well as the lives of others) The Night Listener could serve as creepy paranoid cousin to the current Lady in the Water.
Eitthvað til að forðast (þó það líti ágætlega út)
Step Up
22%
This trite teen romance has too little plot and not enough dancing.
Lady in the Water
24%
A far-fetched story with little suspense and unconvincing scenarios, Lady In The Water feels contrived, pretentious, and rather silly
- The surprise here is that he's created a story mythology for this fantasy/thriller that's so ludicrous and convoluted that it's almost laughable. At times it seems his cast members are making up the story as they go.
